Dance Explosions Staff


Dance Explosions’ staff is comprised of qualified dance educators with a dance teaching designation and/or an Dance Arts degree. Our staff is our reputation, built on professionals with a strong commitment to pass on their passion for dance to future generations. Please read the bios below for more information on our exceptional instructors.


What makes a great dance teacher?


Love of the art of dance in collaboration with a strong commitment to pass that passion on to young children and teens!  The Dance Explosions staff is made up of highly trained professionals with up to15 years teaching experience.  In addition many of our staff members still enjoy performing and choreographing for the Calgary community.


What credentials, diplomas or accreditations does the Dance Explosions staff have?

Most of our staff has a professional dance teaching designation from a nationally or internationally recognized dance teaching organization.  These include the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, a national organization with members across Canada, the Imperial Society of Dance and the Royal Academy of Dance, a global teaching network practiced in 83 countries.  For more information on these dance associations please visit: and

How does your staff become certified?

Depending on the organization, a staff member receives their credentials by completing a practical exam, mandatory teaching experience and at home study of anatomy, music, teaching pedagogy and dance history.

Is staff training ongoing?

All staff is encouraged and supported by the director to continue their learning with performances, seminars and teaching workshops offered through different dance organizations and the Calgary dance community.  As teachers we are always the most eager to learn MORE so that we can pass it on to our students.

What are some of the “extras” a dance teacher must do before they enter the classroom?

Dance teachers are busy people!  Class plans must be made and music selected for each class they teach.  In addition themes must be selected, choreography created and costumes chosen for every stage performance.


Cinzia Eremita

(Director), R.A.D., R.T.S., B-Comm
Teaches: Pre-dance, Ballet


Cinzia has been teaching dance for 24 years at all levels and age groups. She has been the owner and operator of Dance Explosions for 17 years.   After earning her Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Calgary, she studied at the Royal Academy of Dance headquarters in London, UK where she obtained her RAD teaching diploma.  Cinzia is a member of the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association , has choregraphed locally for Dancer’s Studio West and the U of C’s Dance Montage and has also adjudicated for provincial competitions and organizations.  She has attended the National Ballet School Teachers Seminar in Toronto, countless Royal Academy of Dance Courses,the Dance Teachers Life Conference in Boston, MA and attended classes in New York City. She takes great pride is serving as a mentor to many aspring dance educators through the RAD CBTS program. Many of her students have gone on to complete dance degrees and pursue professional dance careers. Cinzia takes great pleasure in all of her students efforts and achievements and throughly enjoys every class she teaches!   She looks forward to her 17th year as owner and director of Dance Explosions.

Jessica O’Connor

B.A. Psychology
Teaches: Hip Hop


Since her first class, Jessica has been iincredibly passionate about hip hop culture and dance. Born and rasied in Calgary. Jessica has concentrated her dance education on hip hop exclusively. Incorporating popping, boogaloo, locking, vogueing, dancehall, and breaking. Jessica is able to create a unique fusion of dance into her classes. Jessica has studied with the legendary Electic Boogaloos including Popin’ Pete and Suga Pop since she was 16. Her all around street dance style has been described as strong and smooth. She has perfomred in local hip hop porductions such as Jammin’ in the Key of Funk In Search of I-Dentity and competed in the Artist’s Emerge Hip Hop Competition. Her passion is to educate and inspire others, passing on her knowledge of hip hop history and culture to her students. Dance Explosions warmly welcomes Jessica to her 9th year on staff.

Loren Dermody

Teaches: Acro


Loren is currently an independent coach and choreographer. She graduated from the University of Calgary with a BFA in dance studies and has been teaching dance & acrobatics for the last 27 years. During this time she has choreographed numerous award winning solo, duo, trio, small and large group routines for competitions and recitals. In addition to her participation with dance & acrobatics, Loren is actively involved with coaching and judging baton twirling, an activity that has taken her to over 15 countries. In the fall of 2014 she completed her CDTA Jazz Full Teaching Membership. She is a certified Level 3 Acrobatic Arts instructor and examiner with Acrobatic Arts. In addition she is a Certified Yoga & Meditation Teacher. Teaching is her passion and she is extremely excited for her 7th year on staff at Dance Explosions!

Sara Klimes

Teaches: Ballet, Modern, Pre-dance


Sara grew up in Nanaimo, BC where she trained at Kirkwood Academy of Performing Arts (RAD) and Parksville Ballet School (Cecchetti). Sara is priviledged to have trained under Joy Camden, Carole Martyn, Donna Wilkins, Lois Watkin-Jones and Moe Brady. She is grateful to have had the opportunity to perform many full-legnth ballet and musical theatre productions from Coppelia and The Nutcracker, to The Wiz and Cinderella. She competed in festivals and Youth Dance Company, where she performed work by Joe Laughlin, Crystal Pite and Wen-Wei Wang. After moving to Calgary, Sara stayed connected to the dance community by teaching open ballet, jazz and modern while she completed her BA (University of Calgary) and MA (University of Ottawa). Sara is thrilled to be halfway through her RAD Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (completion date: 2018) and join Dance Explosions for her 9th season on staff.

Paige Bodio

Teaches: Hip Hop, Ballet


Paige started dancing at the age of 3 in Calgary, Alberta at Dance Explosions Inc.  It was apparent from a young age that dancing was a strong passion of hers. She continued dancing into her adolescent years, competing and performing in countless events and shows.  Paige has trained in a number of dance styles including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary and lyrical.  She completed many dance exams including the RAD ballet syllabus up to grade 8, as well as many CDTA exams in the styles of jazz and tap. Paige is currently studying at the University of Calgary, working towards a Bachelor of Arts in dance, and a minor in Management and Society.

Paige is excited to share her passion for dance through teaching her students.  She loves to see her students faces light up with joy as they dance. She gives thanks to the many teachers who inspired her and helped her be the dancer she is today, and hopes to provide the same love for dance and inspiration to her students.


Valentia Dimitriou

Teaches: Ballet, Jazz, Modern


Born and raised in Calgary, Valentia Dimitriou is a dance professional who has trained in ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary techniques. Valentia is a 2014 BA Alumni of the University of Calgary, and has obtained her degree in the Department of Dance, Concentration in Choreography & Performance with Distinction. She has studied at Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Centre, Toronto Dance Theatre, Transformations Danse Montreal and ImpulsTanz Festival in Vienna. Valentia has most recently appreared in Fear (DSW Dance Action Lab) Collide (Rufino Rodriguez- Project Oswald and BZed Series Phase 4 (J-SIK Movements) She has successfully completed her Advanced 2 RAD ballet examination through the International School of Ballet, and most recently received her Canadian Dance Teacher’s Full Membership teaching certificate. Eager to continue performing and learning about this art form, Valentia is looking forward to her 8th year teaching at Dance Explosions, and is excite to share her knowledge and experiences with her students.

Megan Carfantan

Teaches: Jazz, Tap


A passionate and energetic teacher, Megan brings seven years of teaching experience, as well as her CDTA Jazz Associate and Full Tap memberships to the studio. Megan relies on her scientific background to bring the “how” and “why” into the artistic setting of the classroom. In her free time Megan enjoys travel, and has used that opportunity to take master classes in New York City and London UK.

Christine Taylor

B.A. (Dance), R.A.D., R.T.S.

Teaches: Ballet, Jazz


An experienced teacher and performer. This U of C Dance graduate brings 18 years of teaching experience, an RAD Teaching Certificate and a CDTA Jazz Division Membership to the studio, while training as a CDTA jazz examiner. She is currently in her second year at the University of Calgary pursing her Bachelor of Education. The studio is very happy to continue to be rewarded with her wonderful choreographic skills while she enjoys her 16th year with the studio!

Gabrielle Springett

Teaches: Ballet


Miss Springett grew up in South Western Ontario, where she fell in love with ballet from a picture of a ballerina on a record of Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty.


Miss Springett Danced with the Cambridge Theatre Dance School.  At a young age she had many performing experiences including leading roles with The Black Walnut Youth Ballet Company. She had various opportunities to dance with Les Grand Ballet Canadiens from Montreal when on tour for major productions such as the Nutcracker.


Later she attended the Ryerson Theater School in Toronto, where she majored in dance and voice. While in Toronto she studied modern dance with the Toronto Dance Theatre as well studied the Russian method of ballet the Vagonava style.


In 1998 Miss Springett began her teaching career and become a registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance in 2000. Followed by achieving recognition in music, human anatomy and the history of ballet.  In 2005 she opened her own dance school on the west coast of Vancouver Island called the Rainforest Dancers and moved to Calgary in 2011 where she has since been teaching at different dance studios in the city including the school of Alberta Ballet open division.


Credentials 2000- present RAD (Royal Academy of Dance registered teacher) 1998 RAD Teaching Diploma courses: music, human anatomy, history of ballet.


2015- present RAD Mentor to ballet teachers in training.
